What It's About

The Business and Marketing Education programs are designed to meet the labor market needs of Colorado's business and industry. Both programs follow a flexible program concept consisting of required competencies designed to prepare students for their related careers.

Embedded in all courses are academic (mathematics, reading and writing) skills as well as essential workplace skills such as critical thinking, communication, decision-making and problem-solving.

The career and technical student organization (CTSO) for Business Education is FBLA-PBL and the CTSO for Marketing Education is DECA. These two organizations enhance leadership development and are integral to the programs.

The Mentoring Program

The Mentoring Program, established in 2009, is designed to work with new teachers, administrators and counselors in Career and Technical Education (CTE) throughout the State. To date, more than 100 new CTE professionals have participated and were given extra support from experienced CTE mentors and program directors from the Colorado Community College System office. Feedback from the program has been extremely positive with high-marks given to the support and resources specific to career and technical education provided to those new to Colorado.

The program offers an opportunity for some of Colorado’s most talented individuals to draw from their experiences and knowledge to enhance the professional skills of new CTE professionals (0 to 3 years of experience at the high school level).  Participants in the program have access to online resources, communications, on-site visits, networking, professional development, FBLA and DECA Adviser Training, and graduate credit. The program runs throughout the school year. The Mentoring program is not an induction program but provides opportunities for new CTE professionals to receive assistance in their CTE content area.

The Mentoring Program includes:

  • Mentee Teachers-new to the profession of teaching, new to the program area/Colorado, or returning after having been out of the classroom for a time. (Mentee Agreement)
  • Mentors-experienced teachers selected to work with the new and returning instructors throughout the school year.
  • Program Director-individuals at the Colorado Community College System office that are in charge of the specific CTE program for Colorado, and are involved in the leadership of the Career and Technical Education.

This program is sponsored by the Colorado Community College System in conjunction with the local Career and Technical Education programs in Colorado School Districts.
